Week 13: Presentation day

Finally its our final week of the semester, and we all were very excited for the presentation. Started with Robert, the project manager and continue by the first group showing their final production and present individually.

I felt satisfied for my presentation and everyone did really good job for that as well. All presentation adds on by the comments and advices of lecturer and other students which helps us to improve for our next presentation.

Finally, I felt happy for finishing all the assignments and projects in time, and done well with Aaron for this Library welcome tour. Grateful for all the friends in this class which helps a lot and given supports all this while.

Week 12: The final rush

Lets start with our progress, we changes a few things in our video include replace the shot of the meeting room (due to not having their talent release form) and do some touch up on the arrangement of the whole videos.

Thanks for Wan Ching help us design the name layout of 3 library which makes the video looks more decent and professional.

During the week, I tried my best in helping out my fellow friends in the problem they face for example final cut issues or after effects technical issues to make thing goes on track. Hopefully everyone would have a good final product to present our best for the client.

I am quite happy with all the support and help given by everyone in class as well. We are going to have a presentation to talk about what is each individual role in different group, what problems we face and how we solve it. This is a good way of learning because I believe everyone learn from mistakes and while sharing between class will give others a guidelines of avoid/prevent or to solve a problem when we encounter.

Good luck guys!

Week 11: The V1 video showing

Its time to show our client Ms Joanne our version 1 video in our class. Each group showed their own masterpiece, Ms Joanne, Mr Eric and Robert review our video and gave few comments and valuable advice to make things better.

As for our group, Joanne suggested that we should include all campuses' library into one welcome tour video, Mr Eric strongly agreed with that too. After received the email from Mr Eric, I straight away head off to his office to get Alice Springs library photo and copied in my pen drive.

Meet up with Aaron at night to continue our video editing, passed him the photos and Palmerston videos, lead him in which part of clips we could remove to add in the photos and Palmerston video. This progress just took around 1 hour to finish and polish up the whole thing include putting the names of each campus library.

Cant wait to show the final product that we had done.

Week 10: Another replacement class

This week was another busy week.

Tuesday, I went to Damien office to get all the equipment myself on 1pm because we said we are going to gather at library on 2pm. I carried all the equipments to library to meet with Shelly and we take off right on time.

After half an hour ride to Palmerston, Shelly showed me around and most importantly the Palmerston library. I was amazed by the beautiful scene of the campus and the library just located right beside the big pond. I am thankful to Shelly helps me a lot in the whole shooting progress, which makes things faster than doing it alone.

Showed Mr Eric our "piece" after doing the de-interlacing and the adjust back the original logo. After that Mr Eric suggested our class that we can use Keree and Jerry group's library logo for lead in and lead out to have a standard lead in/out for whole class.

Week 9: Anzac replacement class

This is a replacement class due to Anzac day, and well it is closer to the end of semester. Due to our previous mac lab occupied by other Friday class student, we changed to another mac lab which does not have much software like final cut, after effects to continue our projects.

We showed our video to Mr Eric as usual, he pointed few problem. Firstly is the interlacing problem of our video, the disturbing line while there's motion in the shot, so we will have to use the de-interlacing effects to blur up the interlacing lines. Secondly is the CDU logo problem, which the size are different from the original one, we will have to replace with the one in the sharing folder which given by Mr Eric.

Since our video are almost done, Shelly suggested me for getting some shot of Palmerston library and include them into the welcome tour video. We plan our trip on coming Tuesday thanks to Shelly willing to offer us a ride on that day, which helps us a lot in transport issue. Then, I went to Damien office again to book for a camera and a tripod on Tuesday afternoon.

Wish this extra effort can improve my skill in shooting and editing.

Hard work never did anyone any harm

Week 8: Shooting & Editing

This week in class we talk about our shooting progress. As in our group, we manage to finish up to 80% of our shooting and we will have to re-shoot few bad shoot and get some extra good shots. We stay in our class for like an hour after update Mr Eric of our progress and we continue on our shooting.

It has been a while for me to be a cameraman, took me quite sometime to familiarize from holding to moving the camera without making shaking shot. It is quite disappointing that we do not have the steadicam accessory in Uni, so its hard for us to take a moving shot, so we decided to shoot most of the shot using tripod and dolly to make it a smooth and still shot.

After we get all the necessary shots, I get all the equipments to Aaron's room to export out the video. We face our first problem as we tried to copy all the clips straight from the memory card without using the line in capture in final cut, which all our video clips quality are bad and you can clearly see the line while we panning or zooming. Thanks to Denise told us that we will have to use that function to get a better quality clips. Aaron then play his role of an editor to show his editing skill using FCP, I sit beside him to direct him in arranging the sequence of each video and the transition effects between.

Mr Eric passed me 20+ different genre of music and sound effect CDs to pick one of them for our video background music. I have picked few CD which the themes are closer to what we want, and Aaron tried out a few music and we finally get one suitable and match our video.

Continue our editing progress ...

Week 6/7: first class after holiday

First class after one week holiday, manage to finish the story board with Aaron and plan for next step.

In class, each of our groups presented their storyboard and gets suggestions/advices from Mr Eric and Robert to improve. In presentation, we talk about the details including shots, style, music in our production, Mr Eric suggested that storyboards have to be more detail, including time per shot, angle, background music, voice over etc.

After that, we get back to our small groups and make time planning for this week, I created a timetable and gave to Aaron as his time are more flexible than mine. In the meantime, Robert drop by our group to check out our group status, as usual I told him everything are going smooth and I will contact him if there's any problem.

After finalize our storyboard, I went to Damien office to borrow equipment.
Equipments:
2 Video Camera
2 Tripod
1 Dolly

We going to get it and start shooting on this coming Thursday! Excited!!! Good luck for every groups.
